Gabriel Schenker
Gabriel Schenker lived his whole life in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil until 2003 when he came to Brussels. From the year 1998, he started to get interested in dance through israeli folk dances and in that same year joined many israeli dance groups in Rio followed by dance, gymnastics and aerial acrobatics classes. In 2001 he joined Cia. Deborah Colker, an important dance company in Brazil as well as abroad where he worked until the year of 2003 touring widely across Brazil as well as performing in Germany, England, Ireland, France, USA, China and New Zealand.
In the first half of 2004 he came to Brussels and joined numerous dance classes and workshops after which he joined P.A.R.T.S. for a four year program.
His first collaboration, in 2007, with Franziska Aigner Hip / How to Become Composition was an important artistic step that started not only a strong collaboration with Franziska, but also that developed a group of, then students of P.A.R.T.S., that would share artistic views and processes and that culminated with the formation of the collective Busy Rocks in 2008. Throwing Rocks, Gabriel and Franziska's last project, was highly acclaimed wherever presented. The artistic issues there explored also form a base for Gabriel's future projects. In the season 2008/2009 he will work with Franziska on Under the Influence as well as work with all the members of the collective on Dominos and Butterflies.
Outside Busy Rocks, Gabriel pursues a career as a teacher and as a performer, apart from some occasional writing. He performed in different pieces through his years in Brussels including the piece Human Writes by
William Forsythe. In the season 2008/2009 he'll be performing in Dream Season, a piece by Alexandra Bachzetsis in Switzerland and Holland. He will be also teaching Pilates classes regularly.
